NOVA CANTICA

Il progetto nova cantica è un progetto stilistico, basato su l’interazione dell’improvvisazione e della scrittura, che consiste in una serie di brani per voci polifoniche che prevedono l’utilizzo di un solista di strumenti a fiato che si inserisce improvvisando in varie maniere: completamento armonico, sostegno e contrapposizione alle voci, raccordo tra episodi e cadenze.

Si tratta di due terne di Cantici scritti in latino: la scelta di una lingua morta è giustificata da un voluto effetto di arcaismo e modernità coesistenti. Anche la scrittura corale accenna a toni e modalità salmodiche utilizzando un’armonia che oscilla tra sonorità arcaiche, tonali e post-tonali utilizzando solo le voci nella prima terna arricchite dalla percussione di mani e piedi nella seconda. I testi della prima terna sono originali e scritti in forma epigrammatica e frammentaria, di argomento filosofico ma non religioso. I testi della seconda terna sono frammenti di Seneca nel primo cantico, un frammento della violinista settecentesca Isabella Leonarda nel secondo, e una ninna della letteratura popolare latina nel terzo. A queste due terne si aggiunge un ultimo mottetto sul testo del celebre tropo pasquale Quem Queritis-Resurrexit.

La performance dal vivo è pensata per l’esecuzione in uno spazio con un’acustica con riverbero (luogo di culto o sala da concerto) ma si presta anche all’esecuzione in altri luoghi e contesti. Anche i musicisti agiscono nello spazio rompendo lo schema tradizionale palco-pubblico: il coro si frammenta in sezioni e solisti che vanno di volta in volta a seconda dei brani, agli angoli dello spazio, avanti e dietro al pubblico in maniera antifonale, intorno al solista, spostandosi nello spazio della performance, anche il solista è mobile e si sposta col mutare delle situazioni acustiche e le sonorità dei brani, investendo così il pubblico che viene a trovarsi nel passaggio del flusso sonoro, in varie angolazioni e punti di ascolto.

These are two sets of Canticles written in Latin: the choice of a dead language is justified by a desired effect of coexisting archaism and modernity. Choral writing also mentions psalmodic tones and modalities using a harmony that oscillates between archaic, tonal and post-tonal sounds using only the voices in the first triad enriched by the percussion of hands and feet in the second. The texts of the first triad are original and written in epigrammatic and fragmentary form, with a philosophical but not religious topic. The texts of the second triad are fragments of Seneca in the first canticle, a fragment of the eighteenth-century violinist Isabella Leonarda in the second, and a lullaby of popular Latin literature in the third. To these two trio is added a last motet on the text of the famous Easter trope Quem Queritis-Resurrexit.

The live performance is designed for performance in a space with acoustics with reverberation (place of worship or concert hall) but also lends itself to performance in other places and contexts. Even the musicians act in the space breaking the traditional stage-public scheme: the choir is fragmented into sections and soloists that go from time to time according to the songs, at the corners of the space, forward and behind the audience in an antiphonal way, around the soloist , moving in the space of the performance, the soloist is also mobile and moves with the changing of the acoustic situations and the sounds of the songs, thus investing the audience who is in the passage of the sound flow, in various angles and listening points.
